SENIOR INTERIOR DESIGNER | FF+E DIRECT REPORT : Director | FF+E FULL TIME : 40 HOURS PER WEEK WORKING HOURS : 9AM -5PM EST POSITION OVERVIEW The Senior Interior Designer | FF+E leads the design, documentation, coordination, and on-site installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment for commercial interior projects. This role is responsible for translating approved design concepts into fully realized FF&E solutions that align with aesthetic goals, functional requirements, budgets, and schedules—through final installation and project closeout. This position also leads field coordination to ensure design intent is accurately realized during installation. Working closely with the FF+E team, vendors and consultants, the Senior Interior Designer | FF+E provides design leadership, technical expertise, and field oversight to ensure FF&E scope is executed accurately and efficiently. This position operates with a high level of autonomy and accountability, mentors design team members, and plays a critical role in maintaining design quality and consistency across projects. The Senior Interior Designer | FF+E will work independently and collaborate closely with multiple design team members to ensure the successful completion of the FF+E and installation phases of each project. This is a mid-career position with structured guidance, regular feedback, and mentorship, offering strong opportunities to build technical expertise and product knowledge within a commercial design environment. Success in this role is defined by strategic FF&E vision per project, precision in documentation, proactive coordination, effective field leadership, and the ability to resolve issues in real time while protecting design intent. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES GENERAL • Collaborate effectively with team members to support cohesive project execution • Comply with company templates, design process and presentation standards • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously • Communicate and present to clients • Create, build and maintain professional relationships with current and perspective clients • FF+E DESIGN • Develop and lead FF&E concepts, furniture plans, layouts, and specifications aligned with overall design intent • Select and specify furniture systems, casegoods, seating, lighting, accessories, and specialty items • Oversee finish, fabric, and material selections for FF&E scope, ensuring durability, performance, and code compliance • Produce and review FF&E schedules, specifications, budgets, and design narratives • Evaluate FF&E selections for constructability, lead times, maintenance, and lifecycle performance • Coordinate FF&E scope with architectural, interior, lighting, and specialty consultants • Prepare FF&E presentation boards and finish palettes • Develop and maintain specifications, and pricing documentation • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to obtain product information, samples, lead times, and budget pricing • Support value-engineering efforts by researching alternate products and solutions FF+E INSTALLATION • Lead on-site FF&E installations to ensure accurate placement, orientation, and alignment with approved documents • Direct installation sequencing and field coordination with vendors, installers, contractors, and project teams • Conduct installation punch walks and lead resolution of deficiencies and discrepancies • Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and samples related to FF&E scope • Resolve field conflicts and unforeseen conditions while maintaining design integrity • Oversee FF&E closeout documentation, warranties, and final approvals PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or related field required • 5-10+ years of commercial design firm experience required or 3+ years with Level Five Designs • SketchUp experience required • Deep knowledge of FF+E systems, materials, manufacturers, and commercial interiors standards • Strong understand of commercial building codes, ADA, and life safety requirements as they relate to FF+E • Bluebeam, Google Workspace, Procore, Adobe Creative Suite and CAD experience preferred • Multi-family and/or hospitality experience preferred • High attention to detail and accuracy • Creative problem solving skills • Collaborative, adaptive and growth mindset • Exceptional communication, advanced organization, time management, prioritization abilities and follow-through • Ability to work autonomously, make informed decisions, and manage competing priorities • Flexible, resourceful, and committed to continuous improvement PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to stand, walk, or be on feet for extended periods during site visits • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50–60 lbs as needed • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform light physical tasks required during site visits • Comfortable working in active jobsite environments, which may include dust, noise, varying temperatures, use of on-site portable restrooms, or uneven surfaces TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS • Annual Required Travel: ~60-75 days to go to project installations both instate and out of state (currently Southeast/Mid Atlantic and Southwest), plus 7-15 days for company events and conferences, as needed • Must live within an hour’s drive of a major airport • Must be comfortable traveling by air for projects located more than a 3 hours drive • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain appropriate auto insurance coverage in accordance with company guidelines • Must have access to reliable personal vehicle available for travel to project sites and company-related events • Ability to transport, by vehicle, samples, or project materials, as needed
