Senior Analyst/ Consultant (Regulatory Innovation)

CEG is seeking a motivated critical thinker with strong technical, policy analysis, communication, and organizational skills who excels in a dynamic and occasionally fast-paced work environment. The Regulatory & Policy Innovation team works with state agencies and other clients who engage in utility proceedings with a focus on ratemaking issues that impact customer rates and the achievement of public policy goals. The Senior Analyst/ Consultant will contribute quantitative and qualitative analysis on these topics and develop and communicate creative solutions while ensuring that client expectations are met. The Senior Analyst/ Consultant will report to a Manager of the Regulatory & Policy Innovation practice. Responsibilities • Assist CEG’s consulting practice in executing client projects with a primary focus on utility regulatory reforms and clean energy policy. • Assist in the development of technical work products within the context of overall client project goals. • Contribute to client deliverables: reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations. Assist with editing, formatting, proofreading, fact-checking, and summarizing comments, reports, and presentations to ensure accuracy and professionalism. • Research, policy analysis, and solution development to evaluate regulatory structures and develop insights for practical application in a diverse set of jurisdictions. Conduct independent analysis to assess impacts of different policies. • Review and interpret comments or testimony submitted in regulatory proceedings and develop arguments with evidence that can either support or rebut the issues. • Research policy, regulations, and tariffs; summarize research via memo or presentation; and communicate research to internal and external audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. • Conduct qualitative or quantitative analysis to understand the economics of different strategies and business models in various retail and wholesale markets. • Help prepare senior team members for client meetings and presentations. • Collaborate with team members in scoping and writing proposals for clients and responding to client requests. • Help the team with general operational tasks and internal projects for organizational improvement as needed. • Self-manage time and communicate regularly with your supervisor and other members of the team to manage expectations about timing and quality of work. • Prioritize multiple competing internal and external demands to ensure successful delivery across a portfolio of projects. • Act as a critical thinker and decision-maker in addressing challenges and finding solutions. Desired Qualifications Senior Analyst • 1-2 years of general industry experience, with a preference for consulting, state or federal government, utility regulation, clean energy advocacy, or comparable role. • Basic knowledge of the policy, regulatory, and market constructs that govern U.S. electricity system and related energy markets, including alternative market constructs for clean energy integration and affordability. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams. • Background or experience in technical or legal writing and research. • Proficient in multitasking and prioritizing critical tasks while managing conflicting demands under tight deadlines. Consultant • 2-3 years of general industry experience, with a preference for consulting, state or federal government, utility regulation, clean energy advocacy, or comparable role, or an advanced degree in energy and environmental policy, economics, engineering, or a related field • Basic knowledge of the policy, regulatory, and market constructs that govern U.S. electricity system and related energy markets, including alternative market constructs for clean energy integration and affordability. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams. • Background or experience in technical or legal writing and research. • Proficient in multitasking and prioritizing critical tasks while managing conflicting demands under tight deadlines. Salary: Senior Analyst: $75,000-$90,000 Consultant: $86,000-$105,000 Salary negotiable and will be commensurate with experience. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for a performance based incentive bonus.
