A Brief Overview Clinical or research-based genetic counselor with demonstrated expert-level genetic counseling expertise and/or recognized as a point-of-contact for a specialized patient population or clinical program, along with providing efforts consistent to the mission of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, this position involves an enhanced level of participation and responsibilities within, but not exclusive of, at least one the following: - Administration, - Education and/or Scholarly Pursuits, - Professional development, - Research, - Clinical care or outreach. If acceptable by clinical leadership within the GCs Division, this role is able to engage in Incident-to Follow Up Genetic counseling visits for established patients to the practice to assist with returning test results, updating medical and family histories, reviewing testing options, and evaluating familial recurrence risks. What you will do • Clinical: • Recognized as a point-of-contact for a specialized patient population • Reviews patient information, evaluates family history, conducts risk assessment, and recommends medical or genetic testing based on analysis. • Provides crisis intervention and psychosocial counseling as necessary. • Works directly with the Attending Physician assigned to the patient population. • Education: • Sought out to provide outreach and education • May assist with education/ mentorship within the Division, along with providing clinical education and mentorship to Genetic Counseling graduate students • Present cases at rounds, or other conferences • Research: • Involvement with research activity related to their specialized patient population based on the specific job description. • Published on posters/ abstracts/ publications • Follows IRB protocols and guidelines as per specific approved protocol. • Works directly with the Principal Investigator for the specific research protocol. Education Qualifications • Master's Degree Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics Required Experience Qualifications • At least eight (8) years as an independent genetic counselor Required Skills and Abilities • Demonstrated ability in counseling, skills, techniques and other related areas. • Subject to pressure related and/or emergency clinical problems. • Must have a high degree of flexibility of skills and hours. • Prior experience with clinical data or research data is preferred. Licenses and Certifications • Certified Genetics Counselor - American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) - upon hire - Required and • Licensed Genetics Counselor - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required or • Licensed Osteopathic Genetic Counselor - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required • Licensed Genetics Counselor - New Jersey State Licensing Board - - Preferred To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
