This a Full Remote job, the offer is available from: United States Biology Expert (PhD) Hourly Contract | Part-time | Remote US | $65–$85/hour About the Role A leading AI research initiative is recruiting Biology PhDs to participate in a flagship project advancing the capabilities of large language models (LLMs). In this role, you will apply deep subject-matter expertise to design and evaluate complex biology problems, ensuring AI systems meet the highest standards of scientific rigor, clarity, and accuracy. Key Responsibilities • Evaluate biology-related outputs produced by AI systems for quality, accuracy, and alignment with scientific objectives • Design and refine challenging problems that stress-test AI reasoning and analysis • Contribute to data generation and evaluation processes that guide the next generation of large language models Ideal Qualifications • PhD in Biology or a directly related field from a top university • Undergraduate degree completed in the U.S., UK, Canada, or Europe preferred • 2+ years of academic (research, publication, teaching) or professional experience • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking • Excellent proficiency in English Project Timeline • Start Date: August (applications reviewed on a rolling basis) • Duration: 1–2 months • Commitment: 10–20 hours/week (potential to extend to 40 hours/week) • Schedule: Fully remote and asynchronous — flexible working hours Compensation & Contract • Hourly rate: $65–$85 USD • Top performers may receive weekly bonus incentives of $20–100/hour • Independent contractor role • Weekly payments issued via Stripe Connect Application & Onboarding Process • Upload your resume • Complete a short AI-led interview (20–30 minutes) • Participate in a paid, 3-hour work trial evaluating your ability to interpret project guidelines and deliver biology-specific outputs PS: Mercor team reviews applications daily.
